Tips on How to Propagate ‘Lucky’ Plants

Every year, almost everyone is in search of something to do to improve life. There are many superstitious practices our ancestors have handed down to our generation and in turn we would onto the next one. Almost every year, we add something new to the rituals and superstitious beliefs.

Plants whose foliage has either the surface or underside of leaves ‘aged, striped, splashed, streaked or spotted with the said “lucky” colors of the year can also be used to invite the good vibes of the year.

Here are a few pointers for the most auspicious garden themes for the eight orientations.

If your garden’s genuine orientation is in the north, this direction is ruled by the water element. It is suggested that the garden’s design should be around a small pond or pool. The south is ruled by the element of fire. This part of the garden is suitable to plant big trees, bamboo groves, palms, flowering trees, hedges and rose beds. If your garden is spacious enough, you can build a wooden gazebo or pergola or place benches and tables made of treated, weathered wood.

West is associated with the small metal element. Round, spherical decorations, chimes and bells hung on tree branches or leaves of the house on the western portion will energize good luck.

The area of the big metal element is on the northeastern part of the garden. This is the best place in the garden to put big sculptures made of metal or stone boulders, bells, chimes and large metallic cauldrons converted into a pocket garden.

Meanwhile, the northwest is designated to the small earth element. Hence, use a sand patch, rock garden, pebbled path or walkways, small earth mounds, rockeries and stone lanterns or a wishing well. The southeast is home of the small wood element. In this area of the garden, you can plant small leafy ornamental and fragrant flowering plants that bloom profusely all year round like mini-roses, zinnias, chrysanthemums, jasmines, honeysuckle, vineas, petunias, plumbago, rubiah, adeniums, and plumerias
.
The ruling element of the southwest is the big earth. You can energize the auspicious energy by setting up big figurines and pagodas made of stone, earth mounds or terraced planter boxes with multi-colored flowers.
